Overview

Project One

Project Examples

Problem: No available in-house capability to prepare and deliver a technical paper on a new process

Solution: Researched the process; interviewed production workers; prepared visual aids, authored the text and submitted the materials in finished form for inclusion in the Proceedings. Traveled to the conference site and delivered the paper before an audience of industry specialists.

Results: Wide interest in the technology and the paper was also published in two technical periodicals.

Project Two

Problem: Very short service life in flex harnesses in an expensive industrial printer threatening to ruin sales.

Solution: Examined failed samples and the printer hardware. Performed functional tests; wrote program to create accelerated test conditions and tested sample circuits. Determined best/simplest solution; assisted in design changes and production of prototypes.

Results: Fully acceptable performance with no known failures and a now successful product.

Project Four

Project Three

Project Five

Problem: high-volume production of new medical sensor devices at lowest possible cost with least equipment requirement.

Solution: Preparation of several candidate process sequences with detailed analysis of capability and cost. Preparation of Final Report including equipment requirements and budgetary cost estimates.

Problem 4: High Volume production of electronic materials by electroplating onto dielectric substrates. Continuous plating of such materials in high volume requires low resistance, non-damaging electrical contact devices.

Solution: Design and development of rotary and static wiper systems which provide the necessary low-resistance conduction path with minimum surface damage and heat buildup

Results: Successful manufacturing with good yield and high throughput.

Problem 5: Fifty-piece flex harness with severe environmental conditions, challenging electrical requirements and severe folding and flexing. Short time span with no possibility of  re-do if unsuccessful.

Solution: Background research of existing technical reports together with detailed analysis of the design against industry guidelines and company experience. Application of flex/fold formulas with spreadsheet analysis showing that flex/fold requirements could be met. Preparation of ten-page report with recommendations.

Results: Launch will shortly occur.
